On 1st December 2023, OMATAPALO took part in the 2nd edition of the “International African Energy, Oil and Gas Summit”, promoted by African Peace Magazine UK, held at the Intercontinental Miramar Hotel in Luanda.
OMATAPALO’s contribution was highlighted during the panel dedicated to renewable energies, whose central theme was “Energy, Oil and Gas in Africa: The Need to Adopt Renewable Energies”.
Hermes Calongo, OMATAPALO’s Renewable Energy Production Engineer, spoke about renewable energy, with a special focus on solar energy, a project he is part of and which is being implemented in the provinces of Malanje and Luanda-Catete, and others in the south of the country, Huíla, Namibe, Cunene and Cuando Cubango.
He also emphasised that “the transition to renewable energy sources in Africa is not only a response to an urgent environmental need, but also a unique opportunity to boost sustainable development. As well as improving access to energy, this process aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
As part of OMATAPALO’s firm commitment to renewable energies, we would highlight its close collaboration with the Angolan government in the development of large-scale projects. Currently underway: the Laúca solar park in Malanje province, with a capacity of 400MW, and the Catete solar park in Luanda province, with a generation capacity of 104 MW. Both will be integrated into the national grid.
Solar and water projects in Angola’s four southern provinces are also at the development stage.
