At a ceremony held last Friday, 20 October, in Laúca, demining diplomas were handed out. This is the culmination of a process that has lasted around nine months. It will lead to the process of deforestation followed by the levelling of the area.
The 400 MWp Malange photovoltaic plant will be built in this area, accessible via the access road to the Laúca hydroelectric plant that connects the Luanda-Dondo-Cacuso motorway.

The event was chaired by the Municipal Administrator of Cacuso, Manuel Van-Dúnem, representing the Vice-Governor for the Technical Sector and Infrastructures of the Provincial Government of Malanje, Eng. Angelino Quissonde, accompanied by the Director of the Army’s Engineering and Infrastructure Directorate , Mr. Brigadeiro António Jorge, by the General Director of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), Mr. Brigadeiro Leonardo Sapalo and by the Construction Director Delmir Barbara, representing OMATAPALO.

A team of experts in bomb and landmine disarmament worked on an area of approximately 1 million square metres. The site will allow for the installation of a photovoltaic system with a capacity for more than six hundred thousand solar panels and will provide around five hundred jobs.

It was a significant moment not only for the honorees, but also for the local community, as it recognised the tireless efforts of these unsung heroes in promoting security and stability in conflict-affected areas.

The event concluded with a demonstration of demining techniques and an interactive exhibition where attendees could learn more about the complex and challenging process of disarming landmines.
